Fadensonnen: A Wine Bar Oasis in Baltimore

Looking for the perfect spot to unwind after a long day or to celebrate a special occasion? Look no further—Fadensonnen, a local wine bar nestled in the heart of Baltimore, Maryland, offers a truly unforgettable experience. With its stylish ambiance, curated selection of fine wines, and delectable menu, Fadensonnen has become a beloved destination for wine enthusiasts and casual patrons alike.

    The History of Fadensonnen

Founded in 2010 by renowned sommelier Rebecca Puck Stair, Fadensonnen quickly established itself as a pillar of Baltimore's vibrant wine scene. With a background in wine making and an extensive knowledge of varietals from around the world, Stair envisioned a place where customers could discover and savor unique wines in a welcoming environment.

Fadensonnen, meaning "sundews" in German, pays homage to Stair's German heritage and her family's winemaking tradition. The name is a nod to the carnivorous plants found in bogs that symbolize the blending of beauty and danger—a concept that is reflected in the wine selection and overall atmosphere of the bar.

    The Wine Selection

At Fadensonnen, the wine selection is carefully curated to cater to a variety of preferences and palates. Whether you're a novice or a seasoned wine aficionado, there's something for everyone.

The bar boasts an impressive collection of local and international wines, with a focus on small-batch, artisanal producers. From rich and robust reds to crisp and refreshing whites, Fadensonnen has wines from renowned regions such as Burgundy, Barolo, and Napa Valley, as well as hidden gems from emerging wine regions around the world.

    • Pinot Noir from Oregon's Willamette Valley

    • Chardonnay from California's Russian River Valley

    • Aged Rioja from Spain's La Rioja region

    • Aromatic Riesling from Germany's Mosel Valley

    • Refined Bordeaux from France's Saint-Émilion appellation

The knowledgeable staff at Fadensonnen are always eager to help customers navigate through the extensive wine list and provide recommendations based on individual preferences.

    The Dining Experience

Complementing the exceptional wine selection is Fadensonnen's thoughtfully crafted menu. Chef David Pollock combines local ingredients with international flavors to create a diverse array of small plates and mains that perfectly pair with the wines.

Guests can indulge in dishes such as:

    • Seared scallops with parsnip puree

    • Roasted beet and goat cheese salad

    • Truffle-infused mushroom risotto

    • Braised short ribs with potato gratin

    • Decadent chocolate mousse

Each plate is thoughtfully designed to enhance the flavors of the chosen wine, creating a harmonious dining experience that tantalizes the taste buds.

    Engaging Wine Tasting Events

Fadensonnen regularly hosts wine tasting events, offering customers a unique opportunity to explore new wines, expand their knowledge, and mingle with like-minded individuals. These events often feature renowned winemakers and experts who share their insights and stories, creating an educational and immersive experience.

From themed tastings focused on specific regions or grape varietals to vertical tastings showcasing a winery's different vintages, Fadensonnen's wine events provide an excellent platform for wine enthusiasts to deepen their appreciation for the art of winemaking.

  • About My City

Baltimore is the most populous city in the U.S. state of Maryland. With a population of 585,708 at the 2020 census, it is the 30th-most populous US city. Baltimore was designated as an independent city by the Constitution of Maryland in 1851, and is the most populous independent city in the nation. As of 2020, the population of the Baltimore metropolitan area was 2,838,327, the 20th-largest metropolitan area in the country. The city is also part of the Washington–Baltimore combined statistical area (CSA), which had a 2020 population of 9,973,383, the third-largest in the country. Though Baltimore is not located within or under the administrative jurisdiction of any county in the state, it is part of the Central Maryland region, together with the surrounding county that shares its name. The land that is present-day Baltimore was used as hunting ground by Paleo-Indians. In the early 1600s, the Susquehannock began to hunt there. People from the Province of Maryland established the Port of Baltimore in 1706 to support the tobacco trade with Europe, and established the Town of Baltimore in 1729. During the American Revolutionary War, the Second Continental Congress, fleeing Philadelphia prior to its fall to British troops, moved their deliberations to Henry Fite House on West Baltimore Street from December 1776, to February 1777, permitting Baltimore to serve briefly as the nation's capital, before it returned to Philadelphia in March 1777.
