History
Coelho Winery traces its roots back to Portugal, where the Coelho family has been producing wine for generations. In 1996, Dave and Deolinda Coelho brought their passion for winemaking to the fertile soils of Oregon's Willamette Valley, establishing Coelho Winery in Amity. Today, the winery remains a family-owned and operated business, with each family member contributing their unique skills and expertise to craft exceptional wines.
Vineyards
The heart of Coelho Winery lies in its vineyards, where the magic begins. Located in the renowned Willamette Valley AVA, the winery has access to some of the finest grape-growing terroir in the world. The cool climate and volcanic soils create the ideal conditions for growing Pinot Noir and other cool-climate varietals.
Coelho Winery takes pride in sustainable viticultural practices, prioritizing the health of the land and the long-term viability of the vineyards. The family closely monitors vineyard health, using natural pest control methods and minimizing the use of chemicals. This commitment to sustainability ensures that the grapes harvested are of the highest quality and reflect the unique characteristics of the region.
Wine Production
At Coelho Winery, winemaking is an art. The family believes in minimal intervention, allowing the grapes to express themselves fully. The grapes are hand-harvested and carefully sorted to ensure only the finest fruit makes its way into the winery.
The winemaking process combines traditional techniques with modern technology. Coelho Winery uses a combination of oak barrels and stainless steel tanks to age and ferment their wines. This careful balance allows the wines to develop complexity while maintaining their freshness and fruit-forward characteristics.
One of the standout wines produced by Coelho Winery is their signature Pinot Noir. Rich and elegant, the Pinot Noir showcases the unique qualities of the Willamette Valley terroir. It has garnered critical acclaim and numerous awards, solidifying Coelho Winery's reputation as a top producer of Pinot Noir in the region.
